External JavaScript and Search Engine Submittal Process |

I created some HTML files which use External JavaScript (EJS) files to randomly display different BODY text (also different bg images and text colors as well) each time the file is opened. And the BODY tags do not have any text within them due the use of these EJS files.
I created these HTML files this way for two reasons; (1) to randomly display different text/colors/images each time the file is opened (to give it a different look each time it’s opened) and (2) the main reason, so I can easily modify a few JS files which then would automatically change the display/settings in all my files. I've been told using EJS in files submitted to Search Engines (SEs) will degrade my ranking placement since SEs don't recognize EJSs. And since SEs can't recognize EJS files my files would be considered virtually blank (no content) therefore produce a low SE ranking (if any). I want to know if SSI's (or anything else) can be used instead of EJSs in order to resolve this SE issue? Can anyone provide me (a newbie to all of this) some insight regarding SSI and my randomized text files / SE ranking dilemma? Any advice regarding this matter would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Mikey |

Mikey,
The problem You state is common to all dynamic sites, client side or server side. Actually since all JS includes are written into the source on page execution they are part of Your page. However when You write dynamically from the Client or Server some SE's miss it. Often dynamic server scripts write static cached pages on a scheduled update basis - the best of both worlds! Either use JS to write just PART of Your page 'on-the-fly' or look into caching server pages. You may want to use a search engine submittal page that contains keywords intelligently used in at least 300 words of appropriate text - probably no morre than 600 words... The TITLE of Your page is also very important and should start with Your most important key word. Your SE page should contain links with the important keywords in the text of the link that go to actual pages on Your site. It is also very important to link to the SE page from elsewhere on Your site. Use meta tags, even though some SE don't use them anymore. You are probably aware that some SE's count the number of links TO Your site from other sites - join a web ring, exchange links with other sites, or link back from Your other sites. Also be sure You have a proper meta date, and allow caching. Of course the web is chock full, and with millions of sites out there, don't count on search engines to bring in hits - exchange links, advertise, offer freebies, sweepstakes - aand most of all: BE CREATIVE and as ORIGINAL as You can!!! Don't be tempted to spam... it's illegal and can really backfire! Do try to get folks to sign up for e-mail and use Your list wisely. Do everything You can to keep the customers You have... don't piss them off. - logspirit -
